Emblem of our Institution focuses on the importance of education and knowledge. It consists of the picture of Dr. Pandit Puttaraj Gavaiji. There are three words written in the emblem and they are Dharma- which means religion, Jnana – means knowledge, Seve – means service. These three words show that the Institution gives more importance to our religion which indicates our culture; selfless service is the motto of the institution. A lamp is kept on a book. The book is the light in the life of the blind students. The musical instrument ‘Veena’ symbolizes that music is the soul of the institution.

Our Vision

To train and motivate the prospective teacher-learners to cater an India-centred education (Man-making education) that contributes directly to transforming our nation into an economically strong and vibrant knowledge society.

Our Mission :

To train the prospective teachers equipping them with the skills of Educational Technology so that they could strive to be responsive and relevant to the needs and interests of learners at different stages of their development. We passionately indulge in imparting quality education to the prospective teachers that steers innorvative and researching bent of mind, aiming to make India a knowledge super power by equipping its students with necessary skills and knowledge.

Our Objectives :-

  • To equip the prospective teachers with necessary pedagogic skills.
  • To develop an all-round, healthy capacity to do, observe, infer and to generalise.
  • To enable the prospective teachers to acquire understanding of child psychology and to develop proper and healthy attitudes towards teaching
  • To enable the prospective teachers to make proper use of infrastructural facilities and to develop the ability to give direct satisfaction of parents from the achievements of children in terms of their personal hygiene, good behavioral norms and their progress in the classes
  • To develop skills to stimulate experience in the taught, less with material resources and more by the creation of an emotional atmosphere.

PROFILE OF THE COLLEGE

His Holiness Late Shri Ganayogi Pandit Panchaxari Gavai is known in the state of Karnatak and as well as in the whole of India through his contributions in the fields of music, art, religion and philosophy. He was blessed by His Holiness Late Sri. Guru Kumar Maha Shivayogi of Hanagal. His contribution for the enrichment of the Indian culture is phenomenal. Though he was blind, he had strong inner eye with which he developed vision that achieved miraculous performance during his life time and afterwards. His contritution in the field of music is worth mentioning his achievement in Karnatak and Hindustani music is unique. The flavour of his music has spread far and wide in the country.

His Holiness Late Shri. Ganayogi Pandit Panchaxari Gavai went around the villages and collected the donations to run a school of music for blind students to give them a new vision through which they could lead a respectable life. Starting of such a project was first of its kind and stands tall as an achievement in the cultural history of mankind. After the demise of Panchaxari Gavai his able disciple with command on three languages. His Holiness Dr. Shri Pandit Puttaraj Gavai become the Pontiff of Sri. Veereshwar Punyashram. He was a guiding force for various institutions. At Nintyone he was active and concerned about the welfare of the blind and the disabled in the community apart from establishing institutions for common public especially the down trodden and poor. He had never been deterred by blindness. He translated Basava Purana in Hindi and Translated Shri Tontada Siddalinga vijay Puran in Sanskrit. He excelled in poetic abilities by composing Shri Kumar Vilas Kavyam and Shri. Matkumar Geet. In recognition to his contribution the Government of Karnatak Presented him State award “ Sangeet Vidwan”.

He led life of austerity. He educated the devotees through his Kirtans and Puranas. He inspired and enthused his disciples and trained them up in to good musicians and music teachers and artists.

He gave a special thrust for providing formal education to the inmates of the Ashram. In 1989 he formed Dr. P. G. A. S Samiti to start the educational institutions. P. P. G B. Ed College and P. P. G Music Colleges were established in 1991. These intitutions were formed on the strong edifice of spirituality and secular values.

Dr. Puttaraj Gavaigalavar Andhar Shikshana Samiti’s Pandit Panchaxara Gavaigalavar B. Ed College was established in July 1991. It was located in the campus of Shree Veereshwara Punyashrama in its own Building.

Our College provides coaching for the undergraduates in B. Ed faculties Besides the languages Kannada, English Hindi and Sanskrit the Optional subjects – Sociology, Education, Geography, Political Science, History, Mass Communicatiuon and Journalism, Social work, Economics, Hindustani Music, Kannada, Hindi, Librarary Science, Computer application and Religion are taught. We have a fairly good library with 4837 books and 12 Daily news papers and journals.

The staff consists of 18 Lecturers and of these 10 are permanent approved by government and eight are Non approved staff. The total strength of the students in this academic year is 290. Our Management Dr. Puttaraj Gavaigalavar Andhar Shikshan Samiti runs various institutions and 10 of them are schools and 5 of them are colleges. Shree Veereshwar Punyashrama, the mother institution is basically a charity school for the blind. The Pontiff of Puynyashrma Pandit Dr Puttaraj Kavi Gavai is a UBHAYA GAYANA VISHARADA ( a famous vocalist both in Hindustani music and Karnatak Music) The emblem of our institution bears the photo of Pontiff of shree Veereshwar Punyashrama Pandit ‘Dr. Puttaraja Kavi Gavai together with the musical instruments Tamburi and the words “DHARMA, JNANA, SEVE”. The mission of our institution is selfless service and it caters to the needs of the economically backward classes of this region . By and large the rural poor are the benefecieries of our institution.

The performances of the Sports and Athletics of our College are quite promising and one of our students Miss. Drakshayani Asuti has made records at the national level athletics events and she had got Dasara Kreeda Ratna Award in 1993. In Cycling races our students Kumar K. M Sindhagi, P.B. Nimbannavar, and kumari Vidya Kulkarni, Rajeshwari Raladoddi, Ball Badminton, Nagaratna Hosamani, have earned championships at the university levels. International level wrestlers Prema Huchchannavar, Sairabanu Nadaf, Baseera Vakharada have become International champions. The excellent in the sports, The Government of Karnataka gave “EKALAVYA AWARD” during the year 2013-14 to PREMA HUCCHANNAVAR. The extra-Co-curricular activities in different faculties help the students to develop their personalities.

The N.S.S Unit of our college is enthusiastic and active and strives hard to realize the it’s objectives and goals. The annual N.S.S Camps include a wide variety of Social Awareness Programmes and Our N.S.S Volunteers act as catylists of social change in the rural area.

Every year we invite leaders, writers, thinkers and journalists and achievers in different fields and expose our students to the lamination of our society.

Our college has earned a sound good willl in the community by its intrinsic merits in the academidc performances. We conduct Quiz, Competition to help the students to develop their skills of expression and communication.

Our college Dr. Pandit Puttaraj Gavaigalavar Andhar Shikshana Samiti’s Pandit Panchaxara Gavaigalavar B. Ed College, Gadag was established in 1991-92. Status of the college is undergraduate and its category is a co-education. Our college is affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad. Our college is included under sections 2(f) and 12B of the UGC Act, and grant in aid by government of Karnataka in 2012. It is Accreditated ‘B’ by NAAC.

His Holiness Late Sri. Ganayogi Pandit Panchakshar Gavaiji is the familiar voice in the state of Karnatak as well as in India due to his contributions in the arena of Music, Art, Religion and Philosophy. With the blessings of His Holiness Late Sri. Guru Kumar Mahashivayogi of Hanagal, he dedicated his life for the betterment of the blind students. His blindness was never a hurdle for his work. His contribution is pertinent to the Karnatak and Hindustani Music.

The life of Sri Panchaxara Gavaiji was not easy sailing. He went around the villages and collected donations to run a school of music for blind students and orphans. His service was mainly for the welfare of the blind students as well as all categories so that they could lead a respectable life in the society. Music schools for blinds which was established by him was the first of its kind.

After the sad demise of Panchaxara Gavaiji, one of his students His Holiness Dr. Pandit Puttaraj Gavaiji, who was a trilingual expert held the helm of Sri Veereshwar Punyshram which is known as charity home for blinds and orphans. Dr. Gavai was born on 3 rd march 1914 in Devarahospet, Haveri District ( Karnatak State ). He was entitled with UBHAYAGAYANA VISHARADA ( a famous vocalist both in Hindustani and Karnatak Music ) Under the capable guidance of Dr. Gavaiji the tradition of selfless service continued for the sake of blind and physically disabled. He rejuvenated and strengthened life of down trodden and poor children. His blindness never discouraged him. He has more than eighty books to his credit which include three books of collection of poems, nineteen books in kannada, three puranas in Hindi, nineteen dramas, four musical works, eighteen literary works in Kannada, Sanskrit and Hindi. He translated a Basava Puran into Hindi and Sri. Tontad Siddaling vijay puran into Sanskrit. In addition to that he composed Sri Kumar Vilas Kavyam and shree Matkumar Geeta, etc. He wrote Bhagavad Gita, Upanishad, Shri Rudra and On music in Braille script. He was the editor of a monthly journal i.e. Panchakshar Vani. The literary work epitomized his competence.

The legend vocalist, Pandit Dr. Gavaiji was the walking god on the earth and a silver line for the blind, the helper of the orphans and destitute. He received more than sixteen awards from various State and National Government, Universities etc., Gavaiji was given the Padma Bhooshan award by Govt. of India in 2010, The Nadoja prashasti by Hampi University in 1998, Kanaka Purandar Prashasti by Karnatak Government in 1998. Kendra Sangeet Natak Academy by Dr. K. R. Narayanan at Rastrapati Bhavan in New Delhi in 1999. Karnatak State award in 1991, Mysore State Rajyotsava Award in 1970, Honourable Doctorate award by Karnatak University, Dharwad in 1975. Emiritus Fellowship by Central Government in 1996-1998. The grace, achievements and contribution of Dr. Gavaiji cannot be caught in few lines. It was the request of then honourable President of India, Late Dr. Babu Rajendra Prasad who invited Dr. Gavaiji to meet him and appreciated his book Sri. Basava Purana, which was written in Hindi by Dr. Gavaiji.

An Education society for blinds was established known as DR. PUTTARAJA GAVAIGALAVAR ANDHAR SHIKSHANA SAMITI, by Dr. Puttaraj Gavaiji in 1989. The College for B. Ed and Music established through the samiti in the year 1991-92.

Many Institutions were started in his period, They are as follows. Matoshri Neelamma Thaayi Montessari, P.P.G. Music College, P.P.G. B. Ed College, P.P.G. Blinds residential School, P. P.G. hostel for blind, P.P.G. Music School for blind, P.P.G. high school, P.P.G. Primary School, P.P.G. Pre-University College, P.P.G. Music Residential School, Gadag-Davanageri, P.P.G. College of Education, and P.P.G. D.Ed. College, P.P.G. Sangeet Pathashala, P.P.G. Sanskrit Pathashala. These institutions are standing on the pillers of spirituality and secular values. A blessing hand of His Holiness of Hanagal Kumaraswamiji was there behind establishing the charity school.

The provision of Dasoha is the prime concern of the charity school. Dasoha means food is offered to every devotee who visits the place and to the pupils of the charity school. A function hall is built where famous national and International artists are being called to perform their talents. A journal is written in three languages by Dr. Gavaiji is published at the Panchaxara Printing Press. A drama company is strengthned with modern technology. Many Dramas written by Dr. Gavaiji are staged by the trained artists.

His Holiness Shri. Kallayyajja –

  After the sad demise of Dr. Puttaraj Gavaiji the responsibility of Ashram has fall on His Holiness Shri Kallayyajja. A born blind, a student of the Charity School for blind, His Holiness Shri Kallayyajja succeded in getting the faith of every citizen of Gadag city with his service mindedness and become the president of the charity school. He is epitomized with simple living and high thinking. He passed his B.Music degree and the Junior, Senior and Vidwath Darje in Music. He is the author of many poems and dramas. He is honoured with Mandar pushpa, Kannada Nadin Kanmani Award.
